In this blog I will tell you all the possibilities of sneaker repair and what the advantages are.

Why sneaker repair?

Let’s start with the question; why sneaker repair? Sneaker repair has many advantages. These are the advantages at a glance:

  • A lot cheaper than buying a new pair of sneakers
  • Good for the environment
  • The life of your sneakers is increased
  • Your old pair of sneakers are the most comfortable

What kind of sneaker repairs are possible?

A lot is possible in the field of sneaker repair. Of course, the question is whether your sneakers are still worth it. Therefore, take a good look at the damage to your sneakers and what this will cost before you start the repair.

Repair stitching sneakers

Stitching is a broad term. With stitching you can think of various stitches that have come loose, but also mesh material that has been torn. This is common in sneakers on the front blade. This can easily be repaired by a specialist and not too expensive.

Repair heel lining sneakers

Sneakers are generally made of fabric on the inside. This ensures that it feels nice and soft and is immediately comfortable. Unfortunately, the fabric is also fragile. It is therefore quite possible that your heel lining will tear open or break completely after wearing it for a while. This can be caused by a little friction at your heel or by putting on and taking off your sneakers incorrectly. Don’t loosen your laces when you take off your sneakers or when you use your other foot to take off your shoes.

Heel lining sneaker repair is therefore something that occurs frequently. You can have this repaired by a specialist. There are two options for heel lining repair.

  • Repair heel lining with cloth
  • Repair heel lining with leather

As soon as there is a hole in the fabric of your sneakers or that the entire heel lining is broken, you can repair this by sticking a piece of fabric or leather over the entire heel lining. Our advice is to use leather. Leather is a lot stronger, which prevents you from having the same problem again in a while.

Sole sneakers repair

Sole sneaker repair is a broad concept. There can be many things wrong with the soles of your sneaker. These are the most common problems with sneaker soles.

  • Sole is dried out and crumbling
  • Sole comes off
  • Hole in your sneaker sole
  • Heel is worn
  • Sole is completely worn out
  • Air unit is leaking

Most sneaker sole repairs are easy to fix with re-glueing the sole. Think of filling a hole in the sole or a piece that comes loose.

When your sole crumbles due to dehydration or is completely worn out, only a sole swap is possible. In this case, your old sole is removed from under your sneakers and a new sole is placed underneath.

If only your heel is worn, you can easily have it repaired with a new heel piece. You can have this done at the ‘ordinary’ shoemaker.

In the case of a pair of Nike Air max shoes, your Air Unit can also leak. I will tell you all about this in an earlier article. Read more here.

How or where can you best repair your sneakers?

Repairing sneakers is a profession in itself. It is therefore best to have this done by a professional in the field of sneaker repair. Small or simple repairs can usually be done by a good shoemaker. But a sole swap (new sole under your sneakers) is best done at a special sneaker repairman.

What does sneaker repair cost?

Of course, the price determines whether you want to have your old sneakers repaired. Are they still worth it? The price of sneaker repair depends on the damage. A simple stitching job can be done for a few euros, but a whole sole swap costs a lot more.
